It won’t be wrong to say that Facebook has become the lifeline of users globally. With the emerging trend of social networking sites, it is that one place that is liked by everyone. I also enjoy spending my time on Facebook but at the same time technology wants us to be alert enough to protect ourselves and our data online.

Recently there has been a global widespread of the so called Facebook Socialbot. As the name suggests, Socialbot is an automatic computer written program designed especially to steal our personal data online and mostly from the social networking websites like Facebook.

Around 100 bots were released online in to the Facebook network designed to send friend requests to users globally and as a matter of fact, around 8,500 friend requests were sent in a short while which were approved by over 3,000 users thereby extending their network to around 1.1 million users across the globe.

So the chances are if you are a person who like adding every individual to your network to increase your friends count, then it might have already come to you. Also be aware that if any friend request comes to you of a hot looking girl, then you are definitely being fooled.

As the stats go, already 250GB of personal data of the facebook users have been stolen by the bots including more than 40,000 email addresses and around 11,000 phone numbers. This would definitely increase the amount of spam emails you are receiving and the phone calls too.

Conclusion:

We just can’t rely completely on the Facebook’s security and thus should be alert enough to detect the malicious friend request received by us. Just think of the fact that, why would any “hot” girl send you a friend request?

Facebook has become the favorite time spending social website of many people, likewise it is for me. There are people who like adding everyone they come across to their list, while some like adding only the people who know them very well. Moreover I don’t like adding my office colleagues to my Facebook profile as it reduces our privacy.

But not every one does that, and this is the reason why one of the Apple employees had to suffer. It was a scene that happened few days ago, an Apple employee named Crisp, had posted some “not good” comments about Apple on his profile and this is why he had to suffer his job.

There was his friend in his list who was his colleague at the office, who showed the post to the manager (must be to score some points), that got Crisp fired the very next day. Although Crisp had made the post Private on Facebook but then he was fired for his misconduct.

Crisp had appealed about his concern but there has been no resolution so far. Being open and speaking your mind on public forums is not bad but still you have to take proper care about what are you speaking and who all people are able to read that.

For this reason, I would never add my office colleagues on my Facebook profile. I know sometimes it become difficult to react if they send us the friend request, but do you still like to add your office colleagues to your friend’s list?
You can certainly enjoy networking and sharing photos, but you should know that sharing some information puts you at risk. What should you never say on Facebook, Twitter or any other social networking site?

One)Your Birth Date and Place
Sure, you can say what day you were born, but if you provide the year and where you were born too, you’ve just given identity thieves a key to stealing your financial life, said Givens.

Two) Vacation Plans
There may be a better way to say “Rob me, please” than posting something along the lines of: “Count-down to Maui! Two days and Ritz Carlton, here we come!” on Twitter. But it’s hard to think of one.
Post the photos on Facebook when you return, if you like. But don’t invite criminals in by telling them specifically when you’ll be gone.

Three) Home Address
Do I have to elaborate? A study recently released by the Ponemon Institute found that users of Social Media sites were at greater risk of physical and identity theft because of the information they were sharing.
Some 40% listed their home address on the sites; 65% didn’t even attempt to block out strangers with privacy settings. And 60% said they weren’t confident that their “friends” were really just people they know.

Four) Confessionals

You may hate your job; lie on your taxes; or be a recreational user of illicit drugs, but this is no place to confess. Employers commonly peruse social networking sites to determine who to hire — and, sometimes, who to fire.

Five) Password Clues

If you’ve got online accounts, you’ve probably answered a dozen different security questions, telling your bank or brokerage firm your Mom’s maiden name; the church you were married in; or the name of your favorite song.
Got that same stuff on the information page of your Facebook profile? Are you playing games where you and your friends “quiz” each other on the personal details of your lives? You’re giving crooks an easy way to guess your passwords.

Six)Risky Behaviors

You take your classic Camaro out for street racing, soar above the hills in a hang glider, or smoke like a chimney? Insurers are increasingly turning to the web to figure out whether their applicants and customers are putting their lives or property at risk.
faizahamedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13827293632726472955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2196141699854696467.post-78803247941984074322011-09-28T11:49:00.000-07:002011-09-28T11:49:43.459-07:00Facebook Announces Reward of £25000 For White Hat Hackers To Find Bugs.
Facebook Announces Reward For White Hat Hackers:
Facebook has now officially announced that they are hiring white hat hackers all around the world who will find bugs in the millions lines of code of Facebook software and for each bug they will be rewarded an amount of £1000.
Due to the popularity of Facebook , every day Facebook has to face a lot of serious hacking attempts that can cause damage if they do not properly remove all the bugs in their code. Facebook security has been breached earlier this month by Glenn Mangham, a 25-year-old student from New York, but according to the officials no data has been compromised.
Few days back the most active hacker group Anonymous upload a video on YouTube in which they claimed that they will hack Facebook on Nov5 2011. Facebook CEO’s didn’t respond to this threat but now it seems like they are responding to it. Circumstances can be changed any time and Facebook can be down any time because if hackers can take down the network of Sony , CIA , NATO , then Facebook will not be a big deal for them.
In this ‘Bounty hunter’ program Facebook has already paid to a single hacker £4300 who had been able to find six bugs in the code from where it can be compromised. Another amount of £3000 has been paid to security expert who made ‘one really good report’ said Facebook Security Officer.
White Hat Hackers are those who don’t use their capabilities to breach the security of the networks but they use it for good purpose and not to exploit the vulnerabilities exposed to them. It is a good opportunity for white hat hackers in the world to show their abilities and knowledge to the world.
Google launched a similar scheme last year, which initially covered the open source project allied to its Chrome browser, but was later expanded to invite whitehat hackers to probe its, websites including google.com and youtube.com. TippingPoint, a corporate security vendor owned by HP, also pays cash rewards for new vulnerabilities.
faizahamedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13827293632726472955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2196141699854696467.post-19492049070940060502011-09-28T11:47:00.000-07:002011-09-28T11:51:53.192-07:00Operation Facebook Engaged Says HacKer Group!!

Hacker Group (Anonymous) Will Hack Facebook On November 5. “Operation Facebook” Engaged:
Hacker group Anonymous has now announced that Operation Facebook is engaged and they will hack Facebook on Nov 5. Why they are doing it? Will they be able to do so? Why Facebook? The answer lies in their statement.

If you have never heard any thing about this group then lets have an introduction about it. Anonymous along with another hacker group called LULZEC are hacking the top networks including NATO , SONY , Government sites of ITALY , UK , BRAZIL , BlackBerry Blog and most popular network sony. These hackers claim themselves to be the allies of the public and they are working against corrupt governments , and they are working for rights of people. This hacker group has also been banned on google+ and then on Facebook.
One advice before reading furthur . Go watch this movie V for Vendetta and you will understand them.
This hacker group has launched their attack name as Mission Facebook and according to them they will hack it on NOV 5.

Why NOV 5?. Go watch the movie V for Vendetta.

I will not add more in it. Hear it from themselves.
He used the account of his friend id or any other id and post million of post including pictures and videos and share interesting things on Facebook and spread it in the Facebook. When a user click on it he is redirected to a page where he has to enter his login details including his password and username and some other info in order to post that thing on his wall.

He is a script writer and programmer and has made its own coded programs by which the program automatically open the hacked account and then post something unique spam material to all his friends walls on the Facebook.
He has been a notorious spam master in the history and it is not the first time that he is arrested by the FBI. In the past he is also accused of hacking accounts of MYSPACE and other social networking sites.

In 2008 he was taken in the court by Myspace and he was arrested and then he was released on the bail of $100,000 and then on Thursday this morning he is again arrested by the FBI in accused of hacking 500,000 Facebook accounts.
He is the only one spam hacker who has been arrested by GOD knows that how many are still left. So just be more secure in not to share or click the link of any person who you doesn’t know and try to avoid giving comments on posts.

Timeline, which Facebook unveiled yesterday at a developer conference and plans to roll out to users in a few weeks, summarizes important past events in a one-page display.
According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Timeline is "the story of your life."
That has experts at U.K.-based Sophos concerned.

"Timeline makes it a heck of a lot easier [for attackers] to collect information on people," said Chet Wisniewski, a Sophos security researcher. "It's not that the data isn't already there on Facebook, but it's currently not in an easy-to-use format."

Cybercriminals often unearth personal details from social networking sites to craft targeted attacks, noted Wisniewski, and Timeline will make their job simpler.

"And Facebook encourages people to fill in the blanks [in the Timeline]," said Wisniewski, referring to the new tool's prompting users to add details to sections that are blank.

Because people often use personal information to craft passwords or the security questions that some sites and services demand answered before passwords are changed, the more someone adds to Timeline, the more they put themselves at risk, said Wisniewski.

"Remember the hack of [former Alaska governor] Sarah Palin's account?" asked Wisniewski. "That hacker found the answers to her security questions online."

A former University of Tennessee student who bragged it took him just 45 minutes of research to reset Palin's Yahoo Mail account password was convicted on multiple federal felony counts last year.

Hackers can also use what they find on Facebook and elsewhere to craft convincing emails that include malware or links to malicious sites, noted Wisniewski, even if the individual is not the target.

"It may be about the fact that you work for RSA [Security]," he said, referring to the emails sent to low-level employees at that firm earlier this year. Those emails, which included malware embedded in Excel spreadsheets , gave attackers a foothold on RSA's network. The criminals then scoured RSA's systems and stole confidential information about its popular SecurID authentication token technology.
Others, not strictly hackers, could use Timeline to quickly dig up dirt as well, said Wisniewski.

"Someone could use it to gather information to harass you, or someone at work competing for your job could use it," he said."The more you put in there to make it complete -- and we've been conditioned to finish forms -- the easier it is for someone with ill intent to gather information about you," said Wisniewski.

Although current Facebook privacy settings will apply to the Timeline -- letting users decide who sees what -- and the Timeline can be edited to remove an embarrassing past, Wisniewski was pessimistic about users' decision making.

"Call us paranoid or prudent -- we're paid to worry about this -- but for 99% of people, the danger doesn't even cross their mind," said Wisniewski.

In an unscientific survey Sophos ran on its website today, nearly 50% agreed that the Facebook Timeline worried them, while about 17% said they liked the idea or would get used to it.

Wisniewski admitted that the poll probably doesn't reflect most Facebook users' opinions. "They're doubly self-selected," he acknowledged, "first for taking the survey and second because they're concerned enough about security to go to our website."

Does it really Help hackers??
faizahamedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13827293632726472955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2196141699854696467.post-4801455251592901322011-09-26T11:54:00.000-07:002011-10-08T03:48:05.553-07:009 Reasons to Switch from Facebook to Google+

Can Google+ steal users from Facebook? Yep. There are good reasons to switch from Facebook to Google+,

1. Integration with Google Services

The biggest wedge Google has for driving people toward using Google+ is integration. That is, Google will build Google+ social networking features and tools into almost all of its existing online services from Search to Documents to Video (YouTube). Google+ is already integrated into the navigation bar at the top right of almost all Google products; this lets you monitor all Google+ events (updates, messages, etc.) as well as share content with friends without ever leaving the Google service you happen to be using. Millions and millions of people use Google's free services (Gmail, Docs, Search, etc.), and with Google+ bound so tightly to them it may start to seem silly to jump out to some other site (Facebook) to do your social networking.

2. Better Friend Management

Google is right that the “Circles” concept is more in line with the way we make friends in real life. We have many different kinds of friends, and we interact with them and communicate with them in very different ways. Facebook’s Groups feature lets you form ad hoc groups of friends, but compared to the way its done in Google+ it seems cumbersome. After all, Facebook’s Groups feature is pretty new; it was “built on”, while friend "circles" are the bedrock of the Google+ platform.

3. Better Mobile App
If you're an Android user, you may find that getting content from your phone to your social platform is easier, cleaner more functional with the Google+ mobile app. The app is already great, but Google will seek more and more ways to make your Android phone a seemless appendage of your Google+ social platform. Google hopes to use its huge Android user base as a wedge against Facebook, whose mobile app, while nice-looking, is a little clunky to use.

4. Easier to Find Stuff to Share
Google+'s Sparks feature is another important differentiator from Facebook. Spark is Google leveraging its search engine to do something Facebook can’t do—give users an instant wellspring of relevant information to share with friends. Because Facebook has no search engine, its users must leave the site to find shareable data or wait for their friends the share it with them. The question "how do I find stuff to share" is immediately answered with Sparks.

5. You Can Get Your Data Back
Facebook is notorious for its poor stewardship of personal data. You are forced to make certain parts of your personal data "public" for example, and It is very hard to permanently delete your Facebook profile. Google, on the other hand, makes it possible for you to pick up all the data you’ve banked at Google+ and walk away. This is done through a Google+ tool called “Data Liberation.” With just a few clicks you can download data from your Picasa Web Albums, Google profile, Google+ stream, Buzz and contacts.

6. Better Photo Tagging
When viewing photos in Google+ you can “tag” the people in them similar to the way you do in Facebook. You draw a little square around a person's face, then type in their name in the box below it (or choose one of the names Google+ guesses). But there’s a big difference in the way Google handles the privacy aspect of photo tagging. When you tag someone, you see this note: “Adding this tag will notify the person you have tagged. They will be able to view the photo and the related album.” Facebook, on the other hand, does not make an effort to warn people the they’ve been tagged (possibly in an unflattering or compromising photo) and give them an immediate chance to remove the tag.
Also, Google has wisely decided to shy away from using facial recognition software, which Facebook now uses to automatically identify people in photos uploaded to user albums.

7. Strong Group Chat Features
Google+ has Facebook beat in the area of chat. Forming ad hoc group video chats using the Hangouts feature in Google+ is easy, and forming ad hoc groups for a little chat seems like a natural and fun thing to do in a social networking setting. Similarly, the new Huddle mobile app makes it easy for mobile (Android) users to start up group text chats. Facebook simply doesn't offer these tools.

8. Safer Content Sharing
Privacy advocates have long called for social networking sites to let users assign a privacy level to each piece of content they share, instead of using a pre-set list privacy settings to govern all shares. Google obviously heard those calls, and built the capability into Google+. For instance, when I share an article or upload a camera image, Google+ gives me choices of which friend circles I’d like to share that content with. Advantage Google+.

9. Google Is a Better Steward of Your Personal Data

Running a social network is all about responsible stewardship of users' personal information. Facebook is a young, fast moving company that has proved itself to be cavalier in its movements, lacking in respect for user data privacy, and accident prone. Google on the other hand, is a far more mature company that is, I would argue, seen as more trustworthy than Facebook. For the most part, Google has lived up to its “Don’t Be Evil” slogan. Which company would you rather have as the steward of your personally identifiable information?

1. Google plus is showing potential with it already reaching 20 mil users which took facebook years to achieve .. Google plus syncs calender , gmail ,and etc .. It has no ads and better security .... But doesnt have the faceook games farmville etc

2. We all know google is seen as a major noise, monopolistic content delivery system built on "YOUR" data. what google does may not be circus like many, but can be Trick,Magic (Black or White)

3. Both have different ideals and seem to be attracting different audiences. everyone personally have always liked Google products, so being a member of a social network designed by them makes sense for me personally. people still have a Facebook account for friends who people like to keep in touch with, and because I've been a member since day one when it went public and that's what it originally was (not what it is today). I've always been more of someone who likes to be different, so I use different things (like the Zune instead of an iPod, Google+ more than Facebook, a BlackBerry phone instead of an Android phone or the iPhone, etc.). Google products typically attract those who like Google's current integration of its products; Facebook is starting to turn more into Myspace in all reality when you really look at how it's evolved since it became really popular. people say that one isn't better than the other...they have different features and seem to be aimed at different goals in the long run.

4. In terms of convenience, Google+ would be the ideal choice since people use a lot of Google products. For instance, logging into Gmail is just part of my daily routine. And Google+ is only a tab away on the dashboard. people also focused on online branding these days too so I feel what Google+ is offering might fit what I'm looking for.

5. Google+ will make some major noise soon. There's many cool features and if Facebook keeps changing things that work (ie Facebook groups), users will eventually migrate.

This is major competition for Facebook, and will only get better the more users that jump to it.

6. people think Google+ will do at least as well as Facebook, but you'll need to give it a few years. Facebook will remain a strong competitor though. If anything, Twitter is probably first to go. Google+ allows very Twitter-like networking (follow without friend), which Facebook will probably adopt sooner or later as well.

7. Comparing Facebook and the Google's much buzzed Google + is pretty difficult to do. There were comparisons all over the web, showing how Google's new social network is better than Facebook and how it's not. The guys @ The Tech Addicts has done it well, so let's get onto the info-graphic and compare the two big players.
In my view, Google + is still very young to compete in a full pace with Facebook, the actual tales will reveal only when it is available for the mass.

Now What do u say??? Comments are open

Why do we use Social Media??

I got to thinking the other day about how young social media really is and how much/often we use our social networks in addtion to what we use them for. I ended up writing out a list of what I do on my social networks as well as what I see others use social media for.

Take a look at the list and see if any of these things line up with what you do on your social networks, then in the comment box feel free to add to the list!

News

General Communication

I listed 23 things off the top of my head. Viewing these 23 items, how were we (how was I) doing all these things before? God forbid, but what if social media went away….how would I then go about doing these things?
Interesting thought, no? It’s just so apparent that we use social media for a lot of things especially in everyday communication/living.
Isn’t it amazing how one thing can shape a whole bunch of different avenues in our life. For instance. The world of marketing is changing. Social media is in everyone’s new marketing strategy!

The article goes on to explain how social media has become a rich source of competitive intelligence from insiders like McClellan: “Social media has become a much more efficient way of getting information that could only be gotten in the past by things like surveillance,” said Rich Plansky, Senior Managing Director of corporate investigations firm Kroll.
A Forrester Research survey showed that 82 percent of 150 companies that monitor social media are primarily searching for competitive intelligence. So that’s what all those companies are doing with their social media strategy. Who knew?
Seriously, if you ever doubted the virtues and value of having a corporate culture where external communications are expertly managed and company secrets are stealthily guarded, I’ve got one word for you: Apple. Wait, I’ve got two more words: Trader Joe’s. Two wildly successful companies that take this stuff seriously.
In any case, whether you’re blabbing to the press, documenting your stupidity in an email, or spilling company secrets on LinkedIn, everything gets amplified in the age of social media. Here are seven examples of how being too public can land you in big trouble.

In addition to HP’s LinkedIn snafu, you’ve got to wonder, who was the genius behind the company’s decision to publicly announce its intent to sell off HP’s $41 billion PC business over a year in advance, essentially making it a lame-duck in the market?

Just the other day, in Social Media For Dummies - er - Busy Execs, I said, “I know lots of CEOs tweet. Let’s just say I wouldn’t.” Now here’s a good reason why. Sooner or later, you’re bound to let something slip that you shouldn’t, and if it’s either confidential information or considered “material” under Reg FD, you’re sunk.

Last year, the Galleon insider trading scandal snagged top executives at IBM, AMD, Intel, and McKinsey for blabbing confidential inside information to a hedge fund. What’s ironic is the executives that lost their jobs and board seats and, in some cases, went to jail, had nothing to gain and everything to lose. That’s right, they weren’t involved in the trades.

It was painful to watch Goldman Sachs executives defend themselves in front of a Senate subcommittee over Goldman’s hedge against the coming mortgage collapse. The biggest problem was the way their own emails, like this one from CEO Lloyd Blankfein, documented how they bet against their own customers, “Of course we didn’t dodge the mortgage mess. We lost money, then made more than we lost because of shorts.”

In a classic case of no good deed goes unpunished, BP CEO Tony Hayward spent more time in front of TV cameras thanCharlie Sheen, telling America that his company would do whatever it takes to clean up the gulf oil spill. Except, in the process, he managed to blurt out a couple of idiotic remarks like, “The Gulf of Mexico is a very big ocean …” and, for his trouble, he got skewered by the media and became the most hated man in America.

Who can forget General Stanley McChrystal’s public mocking of vice president Joe Biden and other Obama administration officials in a Rolling Stones article entitled The Runaway General? He lost his command, and rightly so.

Employment background checks are now likely to include a scan of your social media activity. And for God’s sake, don’t say you’re looking for a job on LinkedIn when you’re already employed. I mean, come on. Have a little common sense. And don’t tweet your email address, either. It’s a good way to get your email account hacked.

When you look at all these examples, you can’t help but realize how common it is for otherwise successful executives to self-destruct for no other reason than that they failed to keep their big mouths shut when they should.

Facebook Hacking problem's:

You get a quick message from a friend on Facebook, click on the link and absentmindedly log in to a website pretending to be Facebook. This is what happened last week, when scammers unleashed a new attack on Facebook, collecting users' log-in information and passwords and pilfering victims' "friends" lists to target the next dopes. Listen up, people: Although Facebook has a reputation for Internet security — it identified the scam within hours, and the ripple effects only lasted for a couple days — at 200 million members and counting, the size and popularity of the social-networking site has made it the object of increasing attention from hackers and spammers. And if last week is any indication, it's only going to get worse.

"In the '90s, scammers used e-mail," says Michael Argast, a security analyst at Sophos, an antivirus software company. "Today, it's social networking." Argast explains that although people have been trained not to click on suspicious e-mails, they don't operate with the same sense of caution when presented with a link on Facebook or Twitter. Maybe that's why the number of phishing attacks on these kinds of sites — in which people are fishing for account information, as opposed to infecting your computer with a virus — has skyrocketed recently, from 4,600 attacks in 2007 to 11,000 in 2008. This year doesn't look any better, with 6,400 attacks in the first three months of 2009. (Read "How Not to Be Hated on Facebook: 10 More Rules.")

Like anything on the Internet, Facebook has never been completely scam-free, but its privacy settings may create a false sense of security: most users can't interact with one another unless they are "friends" or belong to the same general network. The site at first glance would also seem less of a gold mine for swindlers since unlike financial websites, which offer access to victims' bank accounts, there is no direct financial gain from hacking into a Facebook account. But the bad guys know that many of us are lazy or forgetful and use the same password on multiple sites. In early 2008, Facebook noticed a marked increase in the number of scams. "We're the most effective distribution platform on the Internet," says Ryan McGeehan, the company's incidence-response manager. "The level of person-to-person connection doesn't exist anywhere else. And as we get bigger, we become a bigger target."

Facebook monitors users' activity, and when someone goes from a few wall posts a week to hundreds of messages within a few minutes, the security team can logically assume that the account has been hacked. They'll notify the user, reset the password, and the whole issue is usually resolved within a few hours. But when thousands of users are hacked at once — and then their friends are hacked, and their friends' friends are hacked — it can take a few days for Facebook to fix the problem. That's what happened on April 29 and 30, when users found themselves accidentally logging in to a website called FBAction.net. Designed to look exactly like Facebook, the evil doppelgänger took their info and hacked their accounts.

When MarkMonitor, an outside security company employed by Facebook, shut down the fake website, the scam popped up again on a different site, FBStarter.com. (It too has since been disabled.) "My guess is this was a pretty organized group of people," says Fred Felman, MarkMonitor's chief marketing officer. Felman says the phishers, whoever they were (Internet scammers almost never get caught), were not using the most up-to-date technology, but their creativity and speed makes him think that they have experience and will probably do it again.

A similar phishing scam established a toehold on the website in January. And last year hackers broke into accounts by convincing people to click on links posted on their profile walls. Another common Facebook scam is to hack someone's account and then send messages to friends asking for money (like the old Nigerian businessman scam, but with a hey-it's-your-old-pal twist).

Facebook won't say how many accounts were compromised last week, but a rep notes that the site has never had a scammer hack more than a small fraction of its accounts, adding that the company's security team — which has more than 100 analysts, engineers and programmers — can handle whatever comes their way. "We're going to be attacked again in the future," says McGeehan, "and my role is to be prepared when it happens."
faizahamedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13827293632726472955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2196141699854696467.post-78221095450883710822011-09-20T10:41:00.000-07:002011-09-20T10:48:02.314-07:00How Not to Be Hated on Facebook: 10 Important Rules

How Not to Be Hated on Facebook: 10 Important Rules:
YourTango.com, a self-described "community for love, sex, dating and relationship advice," has created an instructional video called "Facebook Manners and You." Styled after one of those frighteningly cheery '50s educational films, the video's instructions for proper behavior on the "electric friendship generator" is funny in a hits-close-to-home way. (I mean, no it doesn't. No one has ever posted embarrassing photos of me on the Internet!)

The video covers everything from how to dump someone (do not break up with your partner by changing your relationship status) to the best practices for starting a hate group (don't create an "I hate so-and-so" group. But if you already did, don't use it to call someone a communist). Still, there are a number of Facebook etiquette rules the video does not cover. TIME would like to suggest these additional "electric friendship" guidelines:

1. Stop taking quizzes. Nobody cares what literary time period you are.
2. If you sync your Twitter account to Facebook so that you fill others' news feeds with a constant stream of mundane updates and references to people with little @ symbols before their names, be prepared for people to de-friend you. Maybe even in real life.
3. Don't friend someone you don't actually know
4. If you must friend someone you don't know, include a message explaining why you are doing so. For example, "Hi, I'm your cousin's roommate!" would suffice.
5. Actually, no. Why would your cousin's roommate want to be your friend? That's still weird.
6. Don't invite people to events if they don't live in your city. I'm glad you still live in our old college town, but guess what? I don't. Even if I did, I still wouldn't waste my Friday night listening to you play music at that vegan coffee shop I frequented when I was 19 because I couldn't get into bars.
7. I'm sorry your grandfather died of emphysema, but I will not join your "cause."
8. Make sure all your photos are rotated in the proper direction. How will people know how fun your Fourth of July barbecue was if every picture looks like you fell over?
9. If you create a group called "Lost my cell phone; need your numbers!," I will join, but I won't give you my number.
10. Cryptic status updates about your mental state — "Rachel is trying so hard," "Rachel wishes things were different," "Rachel is starting her life over" — don't make you sound intriguing, just lonely and pathetic.
faizahamedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13827293632726472955noreply@blogger.com0
